Mucocutaneous Leishmaniasis

This patient comes from the Venezuelan Andes. In the last months several skin nodules developed slowly in the face. One of these nodules is seen under the right eye.

Basalioma

In a man from the same region as the patient in the fig. 10-A1 a skin nodule was found under his left eye showing the same structure as in fig. 10-A1, but is more pigmented.

Mucocutaneous Leishmaniasis

In the biopsy slides an inflammatory process is found with the presence of a non-specific granulation tissue and histiocytes. Solitary and in small groups arranged leishmanias may be seen. The Grocott stain is negative.

The histology confirmed the diagnosis.
