pasto tanner (Urochloa arrecta (Hack. ex T. Durand & Schinz)
(PB) (20 y 14,3 kg peso vivo (PV)kg materia seca (MS)–1 d–1,
respectivamente) y dos niveles de suplementación estratégica
(SE): con (CS) y sin suplementación (SS) (0,5 y 0 kg MS100
kg PV–1 d–1, respectivamente). El suplemento fue una mezcla
de nepe de palma (65%), yacija (25%), minerales (5%) y melaza

Resumen en otro Idioma | In order to evaluate the effect of grazing pressure in tannergrass (Urochloa arrecta (Hack. ex T. Durand & Schinz) Morrone & Zuloaga) and strategic supplementation in crossbred heifers was carried out research in Jesús María Semprum Municipality, Zulia State, Venezuela, tropical moist forest area and sandy loam soils and acid (pH 5.05). Two grazing pressures (GP): high (HP) and low (LP) (20 and 14.3 kg body weight (BW) kg dry matter (DM)–1 d–1, respectively) and two levels strategic supplementation (SS): with (WS) and no supplementation (NS) (0.5 and 0 kg DM 100 kg LW–1 d–1, respectively). The supplement was a mixture of palm kernel meal (65%), poultry litter (25%), minerals (5%) and molasses (5%). The experimental design was completely randomized with repeated measures over time (8 cycles of grazing). The outcome variables were: herbage mass (HMBG and HMAG) (tha–1) and height of tannergrass (HTBG and HTAG) (cm) before and after grazing, daily weight gain (DWG) (g d–1), body score condition (BSC) and liveweight gain ha year–1 (LGH) (kg BW ha–1 yr–1). Analysis of variance showed that GP affected (P<0.01) the HTAG (24.8 LP vs. 22.7 HP), ADG (422.8 LP vs. 275.4 HP) and BSC (3.7 LP vs. 3.3 HP). While the SS had an influence (P<0.01) on the HMBG (1.78 WS vs. 1.53 NS) and HTBG (38.3 WS vs. 33.8 NS) and (P<0.05) on the HMAG (1.10 WS vs. 1.02 NS) and BSC (3.6 WS vs. 3.4 NS). None of the variables was found interaction effects GPxSS. Under these soil and climatic conditions, the use of LP and WS guarantees environments heifers at 23 months of age. |
