“enfermo”, “loco” o simplemente “transgresor”.

Resumen en otro Idioma | This investigation analyzes a short story titled “El hijo pródigo” (1904) by Clemente Palma. This narration has as main aspect the presence of a very special type of character, which actions are far away from the normal behavior and for this reason, he is considered “weird”, “crazy”, “insane”, “perverse” and “transgressor”. In this sense, “The prodigal son” of Clemente Palma is very similar to one of the most important characters of the literature in the 19th century: Prometheus. Therefore, our interest in this article is, fi rst, to establish the relation between the classical myth of Prometheus and the short story of Clemente Palma. Second, demonstrate that through the representation of the “rebel angel” Clemente Palma tries to show the extreme change in the conception of the Latin American literature and its themes, and the presence of certain characteristics of the “decadent sensibility”. |
