José Vicente Nucete y sus polémicas sobre la urbanidad merideña en el diario La Abeja (1858-1859)

dc.description.abstractAcerca de los comportamientos sociales y la necesidad de instruir a los jóvenes de las elites ilustradas con el Manual de Urbanidad y Buenas Maneras, de Manuel Antonio Carreño, se tejieron polémicas en las páginas periodísticas venezolanas de la segunda mitad del siglo xix con el fin de orientar a la nación hacia nuevos derroteros alejados de la barbarie, el desorden y el caos. En el presente artículo, se pretende realizar un acercamiento a esa realidad desde la historia local, a fin de conocer cómo impactó el tema de la urbanidad en Mérida. Para ello, se analizarán algunas de las polémicas que José Vicente Nucete sostuvo con un escritor que se escudó bajo el seudónimo El Preguntón, en el diario La Abeja (Mérida, Venezuela), entre noviembre de 1858 y enero de 1859. En los textos estudiados se teje una urdimbre dialógica sobre los juegos de billar y los bailes, los cuales servirán de referente para aproximarnos no solo a los comportamientos de los jóvenes ilustrados en la ciudad serrana, sino también a la mentalidad sobre algunos matices de la urbanidad merideña. dc.description.abstract1About social behaviour and the need to instruct the young people of the elites illustrated with the Manual de Urbanidad y Buenas Maneras, by Manuel Antonio Carreño, controversies were woven in the Venezuelan journalistic pages of the second half of the 19th century with the aim of guiding the nation towards new paths away from barbarism, disorder, and chaos. In this article, the aim is to approach this reality from the perspective of local history, to find out how the issue of urbanity had an impact on Mérida. To this end, we will analyse some of the controversies that José Vicente Nucete held with a writer who used the pseudonym El Preguntón, in the newspaper La Abeja (Mérida, Venezuela), between November 1858 and January 1859. In the texts studied, a warp of dialogue is woven about billiard games and dances, which will serve as a reference point not only to approach the behaviour of enlightened young people in the mountain city, but also the mentality of some nuances of Merida’s urbanity.es_VE
