Abstract
La leyenda de La s Cinco Águilas Blancas fue escrita por Tulio Febres Cordero para relatar el origen mitológico de los cinco grandes picos con glaciares de la Sierra Nevada de Mérida (Venezuela). A pesar de que esta creación literaria forma parte de la memoria colectiva de la ciudad de Mérida, no hay claridad en torno a cuáles elevaciones de esta formación montañosa ubicada al pie de la ciudad quiso referirse el escritor merideño. En el presente trabajo revisamos la Geohistoria de la Sierra Nevada de Mérida y a través del análisis de testimonios escritos y gráficos que han pasado desapercibidos o que no han sido interpretados a cabalidad, develamos esta incógnita, encontra nd o una diferencia en el grupo de cinco picos con glaciares que originalmente el escritor quiso exaltar en su reconocida leyenda.

| Resumen en otro Idioma | The legend of the Five White Eagles was written by Tu lio Febres Cordero to recount the mythological origin of the five great peaks with glaciers in the Sierra Nevada de Mérida (Venezuela). Despite the fact that this literary creation is part of the collective memory of the city of Mérida, there is no clarity about which elevations of this mountainous formation located at the foot of the city the Merida the writer wanted to appoint. In the present work we review the Geohistory of the Sierra Nevada de Mérida and through the analysis of written and graphic testi monies that have gone unnoticed or that have not been fully interpreted, we reveal this unknown, finding a difference in the group of five elevations with glaciers that the writer originally wanted to exalt in his well known legend. |
