el proceso de colonización iniciado por los españoles en el Nuevo Mundo
americano, por tanto, uno de los pilares clave de la economía y sociedad
merideña de los siglos XVI y XVII. Las particularidades geográficas de la
región influyeron en su organización y funcionamiento, razón por la cual
entender dicha institución demanda el conocimiento y análisis de sus aspectos
