dc.description.abstractEl objetivo de este artículo consiste en examinar las raíces del Partido Liberal y analizar sus diversas estrategias de lucha política durante el período de formación de las instituciones republicanas, hasta llegar a las graves circunstancias que se suscitaron en 1848 en el seno del Congreso. Dado el papel medular que jugó la prensa en aquel tiempo, buena parte del trabajo se halla sustentado en los contenidos de los periódicos que circularon en la época y que representan un excelente termómetro para calibrar la marcha de los acontecimientos y la intensidad de los conflictos.es_VE
