Abstract
Este artículo analiza los conceptos de Gran Juego y Nuevo Gran Juego que, aunque
separados en el tiempo, señalan la extrema importancia del Asia Central. La noción
de Nuevo Gran Juego se discute a continuación, al igual que los atributos especiales
de la región, ayudando a comprender por qué las grandes potencias están implicadas
tan activamente allí. Examinando los objetivos, actores, lugares y métodos de
ambos juegos, este artículo arguye que el concepto de Nuevo Gran Juego puede
no responder a la esencia de la realidad que pretende describir.

| Resumen en otro Idioma | This paper analyzes the concepts of Great Game and New Great Game that, although separated in time, outline the extreme importance of Central Asia. It will begin by addressing the origins of the Great Game, which in the past opposed the Russian empire to the British Empire in the dispute for control of Central Asia. Th e notion of New Great Game will be subsequently discussed, as well as the region’s special attributes, which help understand why Great Powers are so actively implicated there. Examining the objectives, actors, locations and methods used by both games, this paper argues that the concept of New Great Game may prove inadequate to the essence of the reality it wants to describe. |
