| es_VE |

dc.description.abstract1 | The Mesa de Guanipa Kari’ña people descend from the fi rst indigenous peoples who received the Spaniard colonialism’s expansion waves since the 16th century. This historical process has been followed by different civilizatory impositions that have concluded with the industrial society expansion by the oil exploitation. In response, Kari’ña people have configured diverse strategies of social change in order to maintain their cultural and organizational singularities. At present time, inside the new offi cial political discourse, although the oil exploitation is still active, they have created new strategies, by the exhibition of their ethnic identity. It has been possible with the projection of their own cultural referents. To do this, Kari’ña people have taken the foreign organizational structures and have changed their own local organizational patterns. | es_VE |
