| dc.description.abstract | En el año 2017, la Academia Americana de Periodontología y la Federación Europea de Periodontología propusieron el tér mino “fenotipo periodontal” para describir las características anatómicas de los componentes del complejo masticatorio, incluyendo el biotipo periodontal, formado por el grosor gingival, ancho de encía queratinizada y el morfotipo óseo. El objetivo de esta revisión de la literatura fue describir las características fenotípicas de los tejidos periodontales en pacientes tabáquicos. Se realizó una revisión de la literatura mediante una exploración electrónica para la selección de información científica detallada en las bases de datos científicas PubMed a través de la NCBI, Biblioteca Virtual de Salud, Latindex y LILACS y en las bibliotecas electrónicas Scielo, Redalyc, Dialnet, Cochrane Library, en los idiomas inglés y español. Debido a los efectos del tabaquismo, los tejidos periodontales se ven afectados; los pacientes fumadores presentan respuesta inmunológica disminuida por el efecto vasoconstricción producto de la nicotina. De igual forma, pueden ocurrir alteraciones en las dimensiones de la encía o deformidades mucogingivales como recesiones o hiperplasias gingivales. | es_VE |

| dc.description.abstract1 | In 2017, the American Academy of Periodontology and the European Federation of Periodontology proposed the term “periodontal phenotype” to describe the anatomic characteristics of the components of the masticatory complex including the gingival biotype, consisting of gingival thickness, keratinized gingival width, and bone morphotype. The objective of this literature review was to describe the phenotypic characteristics of periodontal tissues in tobacco patients. A literature review was carried out by electronic scanning for the selection of detailed scientific information in the scientific databases Pub Med through NCBI, Biblioteca Virtual en Salud, Latindex and LILACS and in the electronic libraries Scielo, Redalyc, Dialnet, Cochrane Library, in English and Spanish languages. Due to the effects of smoking, periodontal tissues are affected; smoking patients present a decreased immunological response due to the vasoconstriction effect caused by nicotine. Likewise, alterations in gingival dimensions or mucogingival deformities such as recession or gingival hyperplasia may occur. | es_VE |
