| es_VE |

dc.description.abstract1 | The temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are a important health problem that has not been solved by the dental profession, since they appear with a comparable prevalence with others important dental diseases. The purpose was to determine the symptoms and signs more frequent of TMD in clinical cases and controls. 80 patients were examined, who were posteriori divided into two groups, one of cases and another of controls. Group of cases: 40 patients with at least two of the three symptoms and signs associated with TMD. Group of controls: 40 patients who declared not to have any type of sintomatology. Both samples of patients were examined clinically using the diagnoses criteria of investigation for TDM. The clinical examination included the palpation of extraoral and intraoral masticatories muscles, measurement of the mandibular movements and detection of join sounds. The most frequent symptom was the pain in the face, head and neck, with a value p < 0.001. The clinical cases showed to greater limitation of the opening mandibular movement; nevertheless, they did not differ from the controls in the lateral-right and protrusivos movements. The joint sounds were present in a 51.25% of the total sample, being more frequent in the control group (35%). The results indicate that the symptoms and signs of TDM are more severe in the clinical cases. However, there were not significant differences in the presence of joint sounds (p > 0.005). | es_VE |
