| dc.description.abstract | Este ensayo pretende ser una biografía literaria de Saiichi Maruya
(1925), escritor, investigador y traductor japonés. Maruya comenzó su carrera
literaria estudiando la literatura inglesa y traduciendo las obras de los
autores británicos, James Joyce entre ellos. Después, empezó a escribir sus
propias novelas y casi simultáneamente comenzó a publicar estudios sobre
la historia de la literatura japonesa: Gotobain, el poeta medieval; Chushingura,
el teatro de Kabuki más famoso y popular; y La historia de Genji. Sus
obras siempre han sido fruto de sus estudios de la historia de la literatura,
pero esta tendencia es más notable en su último trabajo hasta la fecha, El
palacio del sol luciente. En esta novela, a través de voz de la protagonista,
Maruya expresa sus opiniones y reconstruye el tomo perdido de La historia
de Genji. Su carrera es una mezcla ideal del artista y el investigador: estudia
literatura para escribir, y escribe para entenderla mejor. | es_VE |

| dc.description.abstract1 | This article is an overview the life-long literary activity of Saiichi Maruya
(1925). Always wanting to become a writer, he started his career as a
researcher and translator of English literature, specializing in Joyce’s works.
Later on, when he began his career as a novelist, he simultaneously
started to publish studies on Japanese classic literature, such as Gotobain,
a great poet from the Middle Ages, Chushingura, perhaps the most famous
and popular Kabuki play, and Tales of Genji. His works have always been
influenced by the history of literature, and most notably so in his last novel,
Palace of the Shining Sun, in which the protagonist, a double of Maruya
himself, expresses her opinion about Japanese literature history, and eventually
reconstructs a lost chapter of Genji. Maruya’s career is an ideal combination
of an analyst and a novelist. One studies to write, and the other
