Resumen en otro Idioma | This essay has the goal to offer responses to how the discourse toward Latinos has been in the United States. Specifically, this essay sets out what Latino stereotypes may reveal about their location in the American collective memory. With this objective in mind, and with the perspective that twenty-five years offer to us since the film first came out, the paper revisits Robert Rodríguez?s El Mariachi (1992) to trace the presence of Latino stereotypes. In this way, this essay reflects upon the form in which these stereotypes invoke a type of social memory, selecting and exercising shared cultural memories in relation to whiteness. |
