Resumen en otro Idioma | In the last decades, dengue in Venezuela has been acknowledged as a public health problem since the numerous annual cases reported. Dengue cases are present in Aragua state all year round due to this state geographic location and weather, and according to epidemiological surveillance the four dengue virus serotypes (DENV) circulate in the state. Given the prevalence of this disease in the region, the aim of this study was the genotypification of the four dengue serotypes by means of a phylogenetic analysis of the sequence codified by the protein envelope (E). This was done in order to identify the genotypes that have circulated in the state (between 1987 and 2008), and determine whether there has been a co-circulation of several strains of the same serotype. A set of sequences of some serotypes reported for Aragua state and other world regions, and available in the GenBank were analyzed and published (as reference). Phylogenetic analysis determined that the circulating genotype for the DENV -1 was the V, for DENV -2 was the Asian / American, for DENV -3 was the III, and for DENV-4 was the II. No co-circulation of several genotypes was found. Little genetic variability was observed in the area. |
