The Third San Luis Symposium on Surfaces, Interfaces and Catalysis. A Pan-American Advanced Studies Institute
This is the third of a series of symposia targeted to unite Latin American and US scientists in the area of surface science. The symposium is being organized by Professor Francisco Zaera of the University of California, Riverside and Professor Alfonso Loaiza of the University of the Andes, and will be held in Mérida, Venezuela, between March 15 and 19, 2004. The Symposium will include two days of invited talks oriented as tutorials for newcomers to the field of surface science followed by three days of regular invited and contributed talks and poster sessions. Participation will be encouraged from US and European as well as Central and South American scientists in all aspects of this Symposium. The San Luis Symposia series has been designed to foster new collaborations between researchers from the US, Latin America and Europe for research in the chemistry of surfaces, with particular emphasis on heterogeneous catalysis. The previous two San Luis Symposia were held in San Luis and Mar del Plata, Argentina, in 1994 and 2000, respectively, and were deemed great successes. They resulted in the development of over a dozen new collaborations, and yielded excellent special issues in the journal Langmuir and The Journal of Molecular Catalysis A: Chemical. The proceedings of this Third San Luis Symposium will be also published in The Journal of Molecular Catalysis A: Chemical.
